Break the ice for homelessness
Over the next few weeks, the Maritech team will be participating in the Icebreaker challenge for Crisis, a charity our late Kay Blenard gave up a lot of time and effort to volunteer for.
Crisis is a national charity for people who are experiencing homelessness. As well as supporting and helping people into more stable environments, they also campaign for the changes needed to solve homelessness altogether.
How it works
The Break the Ice Challenge runs from December through to March to represent the toughest winter months for rough sleepers. Homelessness is devastating for a person’s mental and physical health and winter can be the most dangerous time of year.
A team member from Maritech's Belarus office shows us how it's done!
Maritech and the team at Sea/ will be facing the freeze of the challenge from Tuesday 1st February. Claire Marshall, Head of Product for Broking Core will be first up by pledging to take an ice-cold shower every day for the month of February. Supporting her from the 1st day will be her Sea/ colleagues Krishna Desai, Nikolay Rovdo & Ollie Buchanan. Each participant will donate to take part and nominate a colleague to participate and take the icy plunge! Whether that is taking a trip to the local lido for a freezing dip, camping out in the garden or starting a winter water fight, get involved and help end homelessness for good!
Supporting Crisis
The Clarksons Foundation will match the funding raised, this means your donation will be double so please dig deep! The money raised will be donated directly to the Crisis Croydon branch in which Kay was a volunteer.
You do not need to be participating in the challenge to donate so please use the link below to play your part in ending homelessness.
Make a contribution
- By donating £10 you can provide 3 hot meals for one on the streets.
- By donating £50 you can help someone regain a sense of worth through healthcare and counselling.
- By donating £100, you can ensure support, training and equipment are in place to help someone find their way back to employment.
Making a difference
The money raised will go directly towards the purchase of Kiln for a local Crisis centre branch. The Kiln is available for therapeutic arts including ceramic and pottery classes. These classes prove extremely popular with Crisis members who are able to develop new creative skills whilst their confidence, self-esteem and trust in others begins to grow again, in a safe calm and friendly learning environment. At the moment, members work has to be transported to an external kiln for firing, which means there are often quite long delays between the work being made and the members seeing it again.
Spread the word
Sharing our message with your network of friends, family and colleagues goes a long way to amplify our efforts. The more people who hear about The Clarkson Foundation, the more great causes we will be able to support.
